Shanty Festival Donations

MORE than twenty shanty crews, from around the country, took part in the recent Old Leigh Shanty Festival, providing their own unique brand of entertainment and atmosphere.
All the crews gave their services free of charge and this provided a base for the Lions Club of Leigh on Sea to make a public collection in aid of local charities, whilst the Hoy at Anchor Folk Club provided the volunteers to man the various stages throughout the town.
The President of Leigh on Sea Lions Club, Tony Prior, has now presented cheques for £2,000 each to the Endeavour Trust, the organisation that looks after the little ship from Leigh and £2,000 to the RNLI in Southend, the group of volunteers that look after the safety of all those who swim, paddle or sail in the Thames Estuary.
