Leigh On Sea News: Army Cadet Awards – A SOUTH Essex MP demonstrated his support for the Essex Army Cadets, when he attended their annual awards ceremony.
Mark Francois, the MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, who is also the Shadow Armed Forces Minister, attended the Cadets’ annual awards ceremony, which was held at Anglia Ruskin University’s Chelmsford Campus and presided over by their Commandant, Colonel Pete Mills OBE.
The Guest of Honour at the ceremony was the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Jennifer Tolhurst.
Mr Francois witnessed the presentation of a variety of awards, from commendations for long service for cadet instructors, through to best cadet unit and best cadet company, over the past year.
Commenting on his attendance at the awards, Mr Francois, who has two Army Cadets units in his constituency, in Rayleigh and Wickford respectively, said: “As a former TA infantry officer during the Cold War, in our local infantry regiment, the Royal Anglians, it was a pleasure to attend the cadet awards to show my support for what they do.
“The Essex Army Cadet Force currently numbers some 1,000 cadets, plus adult instructors and they are clearly going from strength to strength.”
