Leigh On Sea News: Doing His Bit – AN Essex MP “did his bit”, in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday, by supporting a charity poppy ride in Parliament.
Mark Francois, who as well as being the MP for Rayleigh and Wickford is also the Shadow Armed Forces Minister, took part in the charity ride, to show his support for the Royal British Legion and their activities in support of Armed Forces Veterans.
The static bike ride, held every year in Parliament’s Portcullis House, is a friendly competition to see how far individual MPs can ride in a five-minute sprint. Mr Francois clocked 3.47km, which was very slightly down from his personal best of 3.52km last year, but still in the top third of participating MPs.
Speaking about the event, Mr Francois said: “The Royal British Legion do great work, not just in organising Remembrance across the nation, but also in helping to campaign and care for those who served.
“I was therefore pleased to ‘do my bit’ – even if it seems to get a little harder each year!”
