ENZO Harrison, a relative newcomer to Leigh’s political scene has announced his intention to stand for election as an independent candidate running in this year’s local Southend City council elections for Leigh Ward.
Mr Harrison has issued a statement saying: “Sort the Bins, Save the High Street, Clean the River.
“I’ve spoken to hundreds of people about our council – they say the same two things. They’re worried about independent shops closing and decry the new wheelie bin scheme.
“My name is Enzo, and as a young person, I’m inundated with stories of people my age leaving the UK to make a better life elsewhere. I’m not like them. Maybe you aren’t either. While things aren’t perfect, I plan to stay and fight to make my town as great as it can be.
“If you’ve recently found yourself thinking, ‘they’ve not thought that through,’ then you aren’t alone.
“Did you know that Hobbycraft has had a near £100,000 rates bill written off by the council? I’d like to see the independent shops on the Broadway try that!
“Did you know that our new wheelie bin scheme was copied from Chelmsford’s scheme without many amendments? Anyone from around here knows that properties in Leigh often don’t have pavement space or drives for these bins like in Chelmsford.
“Did you also know that, despite not yet being a councillor, I’ve been attending meetings chaired by water charities who aim to ensure the cleanliness of our river?
“In Leigh Ward, you’ve got two options: vote for the same two parties already on the council or give a young, local and devoted candidate a chance.
“So, on the 7th of May, Vote Enzo.”
