Dental Surgery Plan

AN NHS dental practice in Leigh could soon expand its service with three new treatment rooms.
Thames Dental Surgery, located on London Road, has submitted a planning application to convert two existing one-bedroom flats on the first and second floor of its site into clinical space.
The application states that the plans propose a “Change of use and convert existing 2 self-contained flats (Class C3) on first and second floors to provide 3 dental treatment rooms (Class E) in addition to existing dental surgery at ground floor level.”
If approved, the expanded practice would help address growing demand amid Southend’s ongoing dental crisis.
In 2023, a report from Healthwatch Southend described a shortage of NHS dentistry as having a “physical and emotional” impact on residents.
The Health Watch report concluded the urgent action was needed to restore capacity within NHS dentistry.
