Town Rangers Coming

ROCHFORD District Council is introducing Town Rangers around Rayleigh High Street as part of a three-month trial.
The Town Rangers will be working in and around Rayleigh High Street to support businesses and the community to ensure the town centre is a welcoming, safe and friendly place to work and visit. They will be working with local businesses, residents and visitors, with the aim of reporting anti-social behaviour and shoplifting, as well as being a visual reassuring presence in the Town.
In other areas where they have been introduced, Town Rangers have had a positive effect, with levels of crime and anti-social behaviour reducing since their arrival. It has meant a proactive approach reporting to Police, increased communication between businesses with better evidence gathering and improved intelligence building.
Town Rangers are Security Industry Authority (SIA) licensed, Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) accredited and first aid trained. You will be able to recognise the Town Rangers from their logo’d tactical vests. They will work closely with Rochford District Council, Essex Police, Community Safety Partnership, Youth Services, and will be utilising the Shop Safe radio scheme.
Coun Danielle Belton, Leader of Rochford District Council, said: “Residents have been contacting us with their concerns over anti-social issues in Rayleigh and behind the scenes, we have been working with partnership agencies to investigate possible solutions.
“In areas that have Town Rangers already, shoplifting and anti-social behaviour has dropped, so I’m hopeful that our three-month trial of Town Rangers starting on 1st April in Rayleigh is that solution.
“This trial will allow the Council and businesses in the area to consider if we should make them a permanent fixture.”
