A SOUTH Essex MP has submitted a detailed, seven-page letter of objection to plans for a massive new housing development, on Green Belt land, in his constituency.
Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, is objecting to plans by developer, Bloor Homes, to build 1,300 homes, with potentially more to follow, at Dollymans Farm, Rawreth, between his constituency’s two principal towns of Rayleigh and Wickford.
The site is located in the Metropolitan Green Belt and would take up a significant portion of the intervening land between the two towns.
Mr Francois, who has been a long-term critic of the proposed scheme, argued in his letter: “It represents major development within the Metropolitan Green Belt, and threatens to create significant urban sprawl, between the two existing communities of Rayleigh and Wickford.
“It is under no circumstances a Grey Belt site and there are absolutely no ‘very special circumstances’ which would justify development on the Green Belt, on this scale.
“I believe that Bloor’s proposal represents a ‘Trojan Horse’, which, if somehow approved, would lead to further applications for thousands more houses on the site. This would be both an environmental and ecological disaster and the land would be far better used for farming, not least for strategic reasons.”
Over 100 local residents have also objected to the plans to Rochford District Council, which is now expected to rule on the planning application, later this year.
