A SOUTH Essex MP has officially opened a newly refurbished pavilion, for a youth football club in his constituency.
Rayleigh & Wickford’s MP, Mark Francois, cut the ribbon to open Rayleigh FC’s new pavilion at John Fisher’s fields, next to Grange Community Centre, in Rayleigh.
The club, which is now one of the largest youth football teams in England, currently has 66 teams, from under-7s to Veterans, including a rapidly growing girls section, with multiple teams too.
The Club, which has been searching for a permanent home for some years, took over and completely refurbished a derelict set of changing rooms and converted the building into a modern pavilion, including changing facilities, a cafe/bar and a recreation area, plus space for meetings.
Commenting on their successful efforts, Mr Francois said: “What Rayleigh FC have achieved at John Fisher’s is very impressive; turning a building that was an eyesore into a modern facility for this very popular club.
“I would like to congratulate the club’s leadership for this very successful project and thank them for giving me the privilege of opening it.
“I wish Rayleigh FC all the best for the future.”
