Leigh On Sea News: Belfairs Wildflower Meadow – ESSEX Wildlife Trust based at Belfairs has been awarded funding from Southend City Council’s Big Spark Fund to plant and maintain a wildflower meadow by The Woodland Centre.
Since 1930, England has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows. These are vital for the health of the environment as they are great for pollinators, insects, birds and they absorb carbon. In addition, they are beautiful to look at. Children from local schools will be able to add a trip to the wildflower meadow to their curriculum.
Before planting in the next planting season (Autumn) Essex Wildlife Trust is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to set up a wildflower meadow volunteer group. No previous experience or knowledge is necessary.
A spokesperson said: “We will all be learning together.
“If you are interested in joining the wildflower volunteer group, please let any member of staff know at the Woodland Centre. You can ring the Centre on 01702477467 or let them know in person.”
