School’s Glowing Praise

A LEIGH junior school has received glowing praise from Ofsted after achieving “strong” ratings in all areas under the watchdog’s new inspection framework.
West Leigh Junior School, in Ronald Hill Grove, is among only a handful of primary schools in the east of England to receive top ratings across every category since the new system was introduced.
Under the revised framework, schools are no longer given a single overall judgement, but are instead assessed across six separate areas.
The school said the new “expected standard” is tougher than the former “good” rating, while the new “strong standard” is more difficult to achieve than the previous “outstanding” judgement.
Inspectors found pupils “thrive” at the school and “settle incredibly quickly into their work”.
The report also praised the school’s carefully planned curriculum, adding that pupils develop into “incredibly knowledgeable and articulate young people ready for future learning”.
Attendance and safeguarding standards were also commended, while inspectors noted bullying was rare and dealt with swiftly when necessary.
A spokesperson for the school said: “We couldn’t be prouder of our hardworking staff and amazing pupils.
“Over the two days, they all demonstrated what the school is about – high standards of education in a calm and welcoming environment.
“These standards have been established over many years, and we are delighted that this continues to be recognised.”
