Apprenticeships Initiative - DAVID Burton Sampson showed his support for apprenticeships when he attended a special meeting in Leigh Community centre

DAVID Burton Sampson showed his support for apprenticeships when he attended a special meeting in Leigh Community centre, where he outlined their advantages to business leaders.
The meeting was arranged by First Tuition, who have a base in Southend to deliver apprenticeships in accountancy, finance and leadership training.
The MP for Southend West and Leigh welcomed the guests and said: “When our young people succeed, our area succeeds.
“I’m really pleased the Government has pledged £2.5 billion in investment into new pathways for young people.
“These are the biggest changes to apprenticeships in a decade.”
Mr Burton Sampson asked the business leaders in the room how many of them knew that the government is now providing an “Apprenticeship Incentive” of £2,000 for each new employee aged 16-24 that a small business takes on. Some businesses were aware, but others were not.
First Tuition agreed that technical qualifications should be afforded the same respect as university degrees, offering a real alternative to the standard routes of work or higher education.
Policy Director, Gareth John, told the meeting that apprenticeships have transformed the accountancy profession and have increased participation from state school students, which is good for social mobility.
Mr Burton-Sampson said: “Our new ‘fast track’ apprenticeships reforms, alongside changes to the Growth and Skills Levy, together with our Youth Guarantee, mean that more young people will be able to access training or an apprenticeship.
“I’m really pleased the Government is investing into these new pathways for young people.”
