THE owners of a water-side shipping container in Old Leigh are celebrating after they received approval to continue serving customers.
Drift Café, run by Jessi Braithwaite, initially open six months ago in Leigh Marina, but was operating without official permission from Southend Council.
Last week, councillors voted in favour of the venture, praising its “positive contribution to the corner of Leigh.”
Ms Braithwaite told reporters: “We are delighted that Drift has been granted planning permission to remain as a café.
“It is incredibly rewarding to know we can continue doing what we love in a space that has been shaped by the collective passion, hard work and energy of so many people here at the Marina.”
The café in the Marina runs alongside Drift Studio, run by Ms Braithwaite’s business partner Lydia Keel, which has a timetable of classes focused on mind-body connection rather than intense workouts.
The business is one of many new offers at Leigh Marina, fast becoming a hot spot for amenities, music and social meet ups.
Events include running clubs, sea swimmers to mental health walks, women’s, parents and baby groups, as well as art-based gatherings.
Ms Braithwaite added: “One of the things we love most about Drift is seeing how many exciting communities have made this space at home.”
