A PROLIFIC Westcliff thief stopped in her tracks by an off-duty police officer has been convicted of ten shop thefts involving £1,200 of food and grocery items.
Lindsey Russell, 43, was detained at the BP garage shop in West Street, Westcliff, by an off-duty Metropolitan Police officer who spotted her picking up several items before leaving without paying.
Following an investigation by the city’s local policing team, Russell was charged with ten shop thefts between 19 April and 29 May 2026 – nine from the BP garage and one from Sainsbury’s in Westcliff.
Basildon Magistrates heard on 24 June that Russell admitted the thefts. They remanded her on bail, with a condition not to enter any BP or Primark in the UK, until her next hearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on 12 August, when she is due to be sentenced.
