A VENUE in Old Leigh hosted the Essex premiere of a new documentary exploring the heritage, geography, and wildlife of the Thames Estuary.
Over 180 guests gathered at The Boatyard Restaurant in glorious summer weather for drinks and canapes before enjoying a screening of London’s Last Wilderness.
Pablo Behrens, director of the documentary, is the latest in a long line of artist and film makers who have been drawn to the unique geography industry and atmosphere of the Essex and Kent shorelines.
In this film, Behrens explores whether the river still holds a wilder side, capturing it as an “alien environment”, tracking tides, chasing storms, and filming in all conditions, as well as providing a spotlight for some of the industries and communities that know it best, including Brownes Thames Estuary Boat Trips, operated by Angus Browne, who played an important role in the production of the documentary, through vessel support and filming opportunities.
The event brought together local residents, councillors, fishermen, boat owners, commercial operators, conservation supporters and members of the local community to celebrate the unique beauty of the Thames Estuary showcased in this new work.
The organisers of the event said: “A special thank you goes to The Boatyard Restaurant, Brownes Thames Estuary Boat Trips, trading as Brownes Ventures Ltd, and Richard Longstaff for their generous support in helping to make the Essex premiere such a resounding success.”
They added: “Following the overwhelming response from the audience, organisers are now exploring opportunities to hold additional screenings across Essex and the surrounding area, while also hoping to bring London Last Wilderness to the big screen at the Odeon Cinema so that an even wider audience can experience this remarkable documentary.”
