High Street Closure – RAYLEIGH roads will be partially closed for a period of three weeks.

RAYLEIGH roads will be partially closed for a period of three weeks.
The closure affects a 40mph stretch of Rayleigh High Street.
Essex County Council has issued notice that High Street, Rayleigh will be temporarily closed from its junction with Castle Road.
The works are scheduled to start on 27th July 2026 for 20 nights, between 8pm and 5am.
The works are to allow the crossing outside Iceland to be upgraded from a zebra crossing to a pelican crossing.
There will also be a ‘No Waiting, No Loading an No Stopping’ restriction, with current parking and wating rules suspended along the affected section, with ordinary parking and wating rules suspended.
A deliveries route will be via High Street, Eastwood Road, Rayleigh Road, A127, Rayleigh Weir roundabout, High Road, and back to High Street.
Coun Michael Sutton of Wheatley Ward commented: “I’m really pleased to see this change.
“This part of the High Street is heavily used by children, parents and residents, especially around school times. A signal-controlled crossing can only be a positive step for school safety.
“It should give pedestrians more confidence and make it much clearer for drivers when they need to stop.”
