A LEIGH couple celebrated their 70th anniversary this June.

Bill and Betty Foster, both in their 90s, got married on the June 27, 1953 at St Nicholas Elm Park.

Their granddaughter Annabelle Williams celebrated the momentous occasion with them, and explained: “My grandmother, betty, who is 95, a seamstress for Norman Hartnell and was involved in the making of Queen Elizabeth’s Wedding dress.

“94-year-old Bill was a carpenter during his working life.

“He still loves to create things in his shed!

“The couple moved to Leigh from Romford in 2020, to be closer to family, and thoroughly enjoy living in the town, and all it has to offer.

“They love the cockle sheds and walking their dog Betsy at Belfairs Wood.”
