A WESTCLIFF takeaway has submitted a bid to stay open throughout the night and serve food until 5 am.

Crown Mexican at 206 London Road has filed the request with Southend Council’s licensing department, requesting to stay open and serve customers between 11 pm and 5 am.

Matt Dent, labour councillor responsible for businesses, remarked that the potential impact on neighbours about the extended opening hours would have to be weighted up alongside the advantages of the licence.

He reportedly commented: “If there is a large market for it, then it is worth exploring, but it needs to be balanced carefully with the impact on residents in the area.

“We wouldn’t want to approve anything that is going to cause additional hardships for neighbours.”

He added: “We also need to ensure that it would not feed antisocial behaviour in the area.”

The business, which offers a variety of Mexican and Italian food operates as a takeaway and delivery business

If approved, deliveries would also be available until 5 am.

Representations regarding the application must be received by August 1.
