A FIFTH and sixth man have been charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles in the south of Essex.

Following the arrest and charging of four men in connection with the same conspiracy on Tuesday 15 April, a 41-year-old man from Westcliff was further arrested on Sunday 20 April.

Now Martin Russell, 41, of Meteor Road in Westcliff, is charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles and was remanded in custody ahead of appearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 22 April.

He has also been released under investigation on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug.

Additionally, 46-year-old Michael Morris, currently at HMP Chelmsford, has been charged by postal requisition with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles.

Four other men are charged in connection with this offence: Aaron Wright, 33, of Danbury Close in Leigh, is charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles, theft of a motor vehicle and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.

Daniel Wright, 31, of Preston Road in Westcliff, is charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles and handling stolen goods.

Warren Simpson, 27, of West Street in Southend, is charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles and possession of cannabis.

Peter Winn, 40, of Crowstone Road in Westcliff, is charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles

Russell, Wright, Wright, Simpson and Winn have all been remanded ahead of an appearance at Basildon Crown Court on 14 May 2025.

Another man arrested on Tuesday 15 April, 34-year-old Ben Sharratt of Archer Avenue in Southend, has subsequently pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle and has been sentenced to 35 weeks in prison.
