GOLD Geese Goslings, a much‑loved children’s fun run and scooting fundraising event, took place along Chalkwell beach seafront and has raised over £9000 to help local families facing childhood cancer.
More than 100 children took part in the free-to-enter event, with families encouraged to fundraise for Gold Geese to help them continue providing emotional, practical and financial support for local families navigating childhood cancer. A number of families who took part have been supported by the charity.
Gold Geese founder and CEO Katie Southgate said: “We’re particularly grateful to the Gold families who came along and brought their siblings and friends.
“We never expect anything in return from the families we support, and it’s lovely seeing our Gold kids out and playing with their friends.
“It’s magic seeing so many kids in bright yellow whizzing along our seafront and showing their support for others who are going through the toughest time. It’s joy, community and hope, and shows our Gold families how much our community all fly together with them.”
One mum explained the impact of Gold Geese support after her son was diagnosed with cancer: “So many times I felt alone, scared and broken but they were always there.
“No judgement, no pressure, no stress just understanding and love. Whether it was a friendly catch up when I needed it the most, planned events for kids and adults, respite breaks away or food vouchers they continually saved me. I honestly don’t know how I would have survived the past year without them.”
Each child received a goody bag, Gold Geese T‑shirt and medal, and local partners once again rallied behind the event. Train operator c2c supported families by offering free journeys home for children taking part, and community partners including Brakes, Co-Op, The Trophy Factor and PMS helped make the day possible.
Gold Geese provides tailored support for families fighting childhood cancer in Mid and South Essex, from mental health therapy and respite breaks, to toys and treats, practical help with hospital transport and food bills, and bereavement support for families who have lost a child to cancer.
