A NEW GP exercise referral scheme has launched in Rochford giving patients access to health-boosting services.
The 12-week scheme, delivered by Everyone Active in partnership with Rochford Council, is designed to help residents with long-term health conditions become more active.
The scheme includes a health screening and consultation to create a personalized plan for the 12-week program.
Joanne Ward, who will lead the program in Rochford, said: “I’m really excited to be leading the GP exercise referral scheme here at Clements Hall leisure Centre.
“Having worked in leisure for 26 years in Rochford, I’ve seen first-hand the difference of physical activity you can make to people’s lives.
“This program is a fantastic opportunity to help local residents build confidence, improve their health, and take those first steps towards an active lifestyle.
“I can’t wait to welcomes participants and support them on their journey.”
This scheme marks the first time in more than five years that Rochford has offered a GP exercise a referral program.
Dan Humphries, area contract manager everyone active, said: “we are delighted to be launching the GP exercise referral scheme in Rochford after beginning our partnership with Rochford District Council earlier this year.
“This program has a huge potential to improve the health and well-being of local people by making exercise available and supported for those who need it most.
“We are really working closely with local GP surgeries to ensure as many residents as possible are able to benefit.”
To join, residents with a long-term health condition should speak to their GP or a healthcare professional who will assist the eligibility and make a referral if appropriate.
There are two sessions per week for twelve weeks, with the current cost at £2.00 per session.
The scheme will provide access to gym sessions, swimming, and classes, helping individuals improve their health and build confidence for a more active lifestyle beyond the initial period.
