97th Season Launch

LEIGH’s 2026 outdoor bowls season got off to a sporting start in Belfairs Park, with both Belfairs Bowls Club and Fairwood Bowls Club gathering for their season opener this April.
Formed from the merger of Woodside (a men’s club) and Fairways Ladies Bowls Club several years ago, Fairwood Bowls enjoyed a busy and sociable start to the season, whilst their fellow players Belfairs Bowls Club officially opened their 97th season.
A spokesperson for Belfairs Bowls Club commented: “Belfairs Park is 100 years old this year. Our Bowls Club was founded three years later, in 1929, so this year is our 97th Season.”
Belfairs councillor Stephen Aylen was present on the day to join the spring celebrations.
Fairwood Bowls Club will also be holding an open day on Saturday 10th May at Belfairs Park, offering a perfect opportunity for newcomers to try their hand at the sport and meet current members.
They are inviting people to join the friendly atmosphere whilst trying their hand at the classic game of bowls with one of their experienced players. Pop in between 10 am and 3 pm at Belfairs Park.
