ROCHFORD District Council has launched a new Voluntary Litter Picker Network, encouraging local people to play an active role in keeping the district clean and free from litter.
Led by the Council’s Environment team, the scheme invites residents of all ages and backgrounds to get involved – whether on their own, with friends, or as part of local groups, schools, or community organisations.
There’s no set commitment; volunteers can give as much or as little time as they like – from 15 minutes while walking the dog, to a regular monthly group activity, or simply whenever the urge to make a difference strikes.
Coun Roger Constable, Chair of the Environment and Climate Change Committee at Rochford District Council, said: “This scheme is about more than just picking up litter, it’s about building a stronger, cleaner, and more connected community.
“We’re excited to work alongside residents who care deeply about their environment and want to make a visible difference.”
Volunteers will be supported by the Council with safety guidance, useful resources, and, subject to availability, a welcome kit which may include a litter picker, gloves, bag hoop, and a high-vis jacket for both adults and children.
The Council’s website will also provide practical advice, a link to their ‘report it’ services, and information about national clean-up campaigns such as Keep Britain Tidy’s flagship initiative, the Great British Spring Clean.
Residents who would like to join the Voluntary Litter Picker Network can sign up easily through the Council’s website: www.rochford.gov.uk/LitterPick
