On Tuesday I had the honour of attending a truly special celebration at one of our local synagogues — the 105th birthday of a member of the community, Doris. Surrounded by family, friends, and generations of well-wishers, it was a lovely celebration.
It was more than just a birthday; it was a tribute to resilience, wisdom, and the enduring strength of faith and community. Listening to stories from decades past and speaking to other members of the congregation I felt truly humbled. Doris I hope you had a very Happy 105th Birthday!
Last week I attended the Independent Advisory Group (IAG) meeting alongside a diverse group of community representatives. These meetings are a vital part of our commitment to transparency, accountability, and community engagement in policing.
The IAG provides a platform for open dialogue between Essex Police and members of the public, particularly those from underrepresented or marginalised communities. It was inspiring to hear the perspectives shared, the concerns raised, and the collaborative spirit that underpinned every conversation.
Topics discussed included local safety initiatives, community tensions, and ways to improve trust and confidence in policing. The feedback received is invaluable and helps shape how we serve our communities more effectively and inclusively.
A huge thank you to all the attendees for their time, honesty, and dedication to making Southend a safer and more cohesive place for everyone.

In other news, at the end of last week our Roads Policing Team were out in force to keep people safe on the roads, and the results show just how vital these operations are.
In total:
• 23 arrests
• 76 traffic offences were recorded
• 23 vehicles were seized
• 88 speeding offences were identified using TRUCAM speed guns—all in 30mph zones
Our officers made 23 arrests — 22 of which were for drink or drug driving. The operation highlights the ongoing dangers of drink and drug driving, especially during busy weekends. Please drive safely and within the law.
