Veterans’ Safety Conference

RAYLEIGH and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, has chaired a conference at Westminster, on a strategy to prevent Veterans who may be at risk, from taking their own lives.
The conference was centred around “The Forcer Protocol”, developed by Mr Francois’ previous constituent, Claire Lilley and named after her late husband, Alan Forcer, a former soldier who sadly took his own life, several years ago.
The Protocol, which has now been adopted by nearly half the Police Forces in England and Wales, including Essex Police, is a special procedure to be followed, whenever a Veteran, who may be at risk, is reported missing. It is hoped that, by the end of next year, every force across the UK will have adopted the Protocol, which is supported by TV celebrity and Veterans campaigner, Ross Kemp and which is already estimated to have saved the lives of several hundred Veterans who went missing.
Speaking about the event, Mr Francois, who is also the Shadow Armed Forces Minister, said: “I want to commend Claire Lilley for her bravery and dedication, in channelling her grief at the loss of her husband, Alan, into something so positive as the Forcer Protocol, which now bears his name.
“I hope more police forces will sign up to it and, hopefully, by the end of next year, they will all be onside – and actively using it to help protect the lives of those who have served their countr,y but sometimes suffered as a result.”
