A GROUP of local choirs will be presenting a rousing ‘Festival of Female Voices’ this March, in aid of local hospice care.
The five choirs – Alumnae, Cantare, Southend Vox Chamber, St Bernard’s Chamber and The Orpheus Singers – will be performing an eclectic mix of songs from their own repertoire, including – Festival Sanctus by J. Leavitt; folk songs Wraggle Taggle Gipsies and She’s like the Swallow arranged by Robert Latham and Cole Porter’s Too Darn Hot.
Vox Chamber Choir will be singing the composition they co-created last year as part of the ‘Adopt a Music Creator’ programme, Between Sea and Sky: Tales of the Estuary, composed by Aran O’Grady.
The unique concert, taking place at The Plaza Centre, Southchurch Road, will end on a nautical theme, with all singers raising the roof of Southend’s Plaza with Andy Beck’s River Song for a grand finale.
The chosen beneficiary for this year’s charity donation is Havens Hospice, which provides specialist care and support for people who are living with incurable conditions.
The concert takes place on Saturday 14th March 2026 at 7.30pm at The Plaza Centre, Southchurch Road, Southend SS1 2PT.
For tickets held at last year’s price of £10, contact: 07518 382390, or visit: www.theorpheussingers.co.uk
