City Day Events

EVENTS in Leigh will be taking place on Saturday, March 7th, as part of a city-wide celebration.
Southend City Day, now in its second year, celebrates the town becoming a city, and brings together residents, businesses, and visitors for a day filled with community spirit, entertainment, and local talent.
As part of this, Leigh Community Centre is hosting a day of storytelling and dancing, with a focus on Leigh’s heritage and industries.
Residents and visitors are welcome to the Leigh Community Centre from 10 am till 4 pm, with a schedule kicking off with a history talk “A Leigh to Remember” at 10 am given by Leigh Councillor Carole Mulroney, who runs the website Leigh Lives.
A spokesperson said: “A must for anyone who loves local history and discovering the stories behind our town.”
Interactive stories from 11 am to 11:45 are set to delight younger visors, whilst a 12-noon talk called ‘Fishy Business,” given by Leigh Town Councillor and President of the South East branch of the National Federation of Fisherman’s Organisations Paul Gilson, will give attendees a perspective on Leigh’s important fishing industry.
A spokesperson added: “Hear his captivating tales from life on the water, behind-the-scenes stories from the fishing industry, and the realities of making a living at sea.
“From dramatic rescues to the everyday challenges of a fisherman’s life, this promises to be a truly engaging and insightful talk.”
A silent disco from 1 pm to 4 pm rounds off the day’s celebrations.
Donation for the events is welcome, to contribute to Leigh Town Council Chairman’s charity.
