Cannabis Grow Dismantled

A CANNABIS grow at a house in Eastwood has been dismantled after officers forced entry to the property.
Southend neighbourhood policing’s Proactive Problem Solving Team executed a warrant at just after 7.45am on Thursday 5 March, and found the back rooms had been converted into a sealed grow complete with artificial light, fans and heaters.
A man was arrested at the scene for production of a Class B drug and abstraction of electricity.
The 211 mature plants discovered were been seized and will be destroyed.
Sergeant Alex Farr led the operation and said the grow was clearly a professional operation: “From the outside, this looked like a normal suburban house, but inside it was a very different story.
“It had been dangerously re-wired and there are clear indications that this was the work of an organised criminal gang whose intention was to produce cannabis for the illegal market.
“Drug dealing is linked to many different types of offending from anti-social behaviour to the most serious violence. My team are relentlessly pursuing these gangs as their profits fund more criminal activity. By shutting them down we are making the streets safer.
“If you have concerns about a property or building where you live, report it and we will investigate. If there are people coming and going at unusual hours, there is the smell of cannabis and windows appear to be blacked out, tell us.”
