COUNCILLORS are due to be presented with a series of recommendations aimed at securing the long-term future of the Freight House in Rochford.
At the Strategy, Finance & Policy Committee on Tuesday 17 March, councillors will discuss a report that suggests the Council seeks a tenant to take on the building whilst exploring a future community asset transfer with Rochford Parish Council, as the most appropriate future custodian for the building.
The recommendations follow extensive engagement, analysis, and development work that has been completed to determine a long‑term, community focused, and sustainable future for the Freight House.
Locality, a national charity with community led expertise, were commissioned to carry out an independent and impartial review of the organisations that have previously expressed interest in the venue. Locality’s review confirmed that while each organisation offered clear strengths, no single organisation was in a position to take on full responsibility for the whole building on their own, without additional financial support or development.
The report being discussed at next week’s Committee outlines all the work that has been undertaken and suggests a series of recommendations designed to ensure that the Council secures the long‑term security and financial viability of this important heritage asset.
