Top Essex Squadron

A SOUTH Essex MP has congratulated an air cadet squadron in his constituency for being named the top squadron in Essex – two years running.
Rayleigh and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, attended the recent Essex Wing Air Training Corps Awards, at which 1476 (Rayleigh) Squadron were awarded the “Lees Trophy”; which is given to the top performing cadet squadron across Essex, for the second year in a row.
Their sister cadet unit, 1474 (Wickford) squadron, were also honoured with several awards on the night, including for best aircraft recognition skills.
Speaking about the awards, Mr Francois said: “I am very proud of the two air cadet squadrons in my constituency, both of whom won awards on the night, including 1476 (Rayleigh) Squadron, for being the champion squadron in the Essex Wing, for the second year running.
“Serving in the cadets is a great way for young people to lean about the Armed Forces and to develop skills, such as leadership, teamwork and first aid and I would strongly encourage more youngsters in my constituency to sign up and benefit for themselves.”
