Month Of Delays

MOTORISTS are expecting a month of delays, when a road linking to one of Leigh’s major routes is set to close due to recently announced roadworks.
Bellhouse Lane in Leigh, which connects to the A127, will be shut from May 28 to June 25 to allow for gas pipe replacement works.
Gas distributor Cadent is carrying out the project to replace ageing pipes with new plastic ones, which it says will support the delivery of greener gas in the future.
A spokesperson for Cadent said: “Here at Cadent, we look after the gas pipes in your area.
“We make sure the pipes that bring the gas to your home keep you safe, warm and connected.
“We’re replacing the old pipes with new plastic ones which will mean that you’ll be ready for greener gas in the future.
“We’ll have to turn off your gas supply during some of our works and may need access to your home, but our teams on site will be on hand to let you know more information.”
Conservative Councillor Owen Cartey of West Leigh Ward said: “I know residents will be concerned about disruption as a result of this work. Recently it feels like there have been quite a lot of changes impacting busy connections to the A127 and I know plenty of local people will be fed up of waiting around.
“Of course, gas works have to happen, but when they do at key locations, the Council has to make sure alternative routes are clear of any other works so we can all go about our daily business with minimal disruption.
“I have sought reassurances that other nearby links to the A127 will be free of road works whilst this happens.”
