Community Grant Launch

COMMUNITY groups in Rayleigh and the surrounding areas are being invited to apply for a share of a new £10,000 grant fund launched by Rayleigh Lions.
The long-standing local charity organisation has announced the Community Project Grant to support initiatives that will benefit people living in Rayleigh, Rochford, Hockley and Hullbridge.
The funding will be awarded to one or more projects that can demonstrate a clear benefit to the local community and can be delivered within the value of the grant awarded.
Rayleigh Lions say the scheme is designed to help local people turn good ideas into practical projects that improve community life.
A spokesperson for Rayleigh Lions said: “Our funds come from generous local people and we are always looking for more ways to give it back.
“This is a great opportunity for local people to access up to £10,000 for projects which will benefit the local community.”
Applications can be submitted either online or on paper through the Rayleigh Lions website, with the deadline for entries set for 12 May.
After the closing date, the Lions will review all applications and aim to evaluate entries by 24 June.
Some shortlisted applicants may be invited to present their proposals directly to the club before final decisions are made.
Winning bids are expected to be announced in mid-August.
Since it was founded in 1974, Rayleigh Lions has raised and donated more than £1 million to good causes across the local area.
Recent donations since March 2025 include support for a wide range of causes both locally and internationally.
These include £500 for a Ukraine appeal, £500 for sight equipment, £750 for the California fires appeal, and £500 for the Memory Lane Café.
Other contributions include £1,450 to Home-Start Essex, £1,000 to Strawberry Teas for Hockley Day Centre, £550 to the Liam Taylor Legacy, £1,000 for a Jamaica appeal, £1,400 to SCART carers, and £1,000 to a Sri Lanka appeal.
The group has also provided £5,800 to help two individuals in significant need.
Rayleigh Lions say they hope the new grant programme will encourage even more community-focused ideas to come forward.
