The 4.5k “Walk and Talk” represents the 4.5-year life expectancy gap between men and women in the UK.
The MP for Southend West and Leigh said: “It was great to Walk and Talk and have a no-pressure chat with other men and their families.
“Men are bad at opening up and are reluctant to seek help when they need it but sharing more is a good habit to get into and then you have the relationships to support you, if necessary.”
The MP for Southend West and Leigh is a Men’s Mental Health champion in parliament and has worked with Wes Streeting to develop health strategies.
The walk started at the Crooked Billet pub and ended back in Old Leigh.
Mr Burton-Sampson added: “The Leigh Shanty festival was in full swing, offering well-earned refreshments as well as great entertainment. It was a wonderful morning and all in a good cause! I would encourage anyone to come along next time and improve your fitness as well as looking after your well -being.”
