A LEIGH trust that maintains and promotes the town’s historic Dunkirk “Little Ship” has announced a series of events taking place this summer.
The Endeavour Trust, which cares for The Endeavour – a vessel that helped evacuate soldiers from Dunkirk during the Second World War – will be undertaking a trip up the River Thames to St Katharine Docks, with members invited to take part.
The upcoming trip on Friday 31 July will see attendees board at Holehaven Causeway (by the Ship and Lobster) at 9.30am for the cruise upriver.
The visit coincides with the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships (ADLS) Rally, with participating vessels open to the public on Saturday 1 August.
A spokesperson said: “Members are especially encouraged to visit on this day, as access to the boats is generally easier for those who may find boarding more difficult.”
A return river trip will take place on Monday 3 August.
Earlier this year, The Endeavour Trust ran a series of two-hour trips along the foreshore and around Southend Pier.
New members are always welcome to join The Endeavour Trust and enjoy the benefits of membership, including opportunities to sail aboard this remarkable historic vessel and help preserve an important part of Leigh’s maritime heritage.
