Fixing Social Care

DAVID Burton-Sampson has warmly welcomed the Prime Minister’s recent announcement on fixing the broken social care system.
In a statement he said: The Labour Government is calling on all political parties to find solutions together.
“The Prime Minister wants to put differences aside, come together and sort out challenges like social care that have been neglected for far too long.”
Mr Burton-Sampson added: “For decades, different governments have kicked this down the road because it is simply too difficult to deal with.
“Well, now is the time. We are serious about fixing this issue and to do that, we have to work together to build a care system that gives people dignity, security and the support they deserve.
“In Southend 19% of the population are 65 years of age or older, that is more than 35,000 people who could need social care in the not-too-distant future.
“Recent research shows 42% of voters in Southend West and Leigh would like to see improvements in the quality of NHS care and a reduction in waiting times. Fixing social care is the way forward to achieving those goals.”
Baroness Louise Casey is leading the Independent Commission on Adult Social Care, drawing up recommendations to deliver a National Care Service.
She is launching a Big Conversation on Care, which will give the public their chance to share their views and help shape the future of adult social care.
The MP for Southend West and Leigh said: “I would urge everybody to get involved and have their say. It is open to everyone through a new online platform.
“People who need care and their families should not have to bear the brunt. The system as it stands is unfair and we need to have an honest conversation about how to build something better.
“The human cost means carers struggling, families paying the price and our NHS buckling under the strain. That must end”
