MARK Francois has given his backing to plans for the complete rebuild of a Primary School in his constituency.
Rayleigh & Wickford MP, Mr Francois, has written to Rochford District Council, to formally express his support for the planning application to completely rebuild the school, which is currently teaching its pupils in a suite of relocatable classrooms, installed following the crisis with Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) more than two years ago.
As the local MP, Mr Francois worked closely with the school, which is now part of the Lift Multi Academy Trust (MAT), to obtain the relocatables, to help maintain face-to-face education for pupils, after RAAC was discovered almost throughout the old building.
Mr Francois then successfully lobbied the Department for Education, to help secure the funding to eventually rebuild the school, which has now resulted in the new planning application.
Speaking about the project, Mr Francois said: “Ever since the RAAC crisis first hit, it has been apparent that Hockley Primary would eventually need to be rebuilt.
“So, I am delighted the reconstruction is now advancing and I am very happy to support the plans. However, I did express one caveat, which was that the Council should seek to ensure as little disruption as practically possible for local Hockley residents, while the much needed rebuild itself is underway.”
