‘Hooray in The Ray’

SUMMER Holiday Sailing Fun & Games took place on Sunday the 9th of August with the Alexandra Yacht Club Fun Day.
The Alexandra Yacht Club members teamed up with Club members from The Benfleet Yacht Club for the annual ‘Hooray in the Ray’ Clubs games outing onto the Ray gut Sandbanks, while the tide was out at Southend City seafront.
Club members from the Alexandra Yacht Club and Benfleet Yacht Club all came together to sail out with the tide at 10.30am and set up camp for the day on the Sandbank to the South of the Ray gut Channel a mile out from Southend City Beaches. They spent the day revelling in all sorts of Summer games in the sun, until the tide started to come in again in the evening when everyone packed up their burgers, cricket bats and balls to sail back to their Club Jetties at 7.00pm in the evening.
There were light refreshments & crisps while floating in the shallows by the sailing dingies and then ball games on the Sandbanks to work up an appetite for a full on mobile barbaque on the sand bank.
The wet sand unfortunately stopped play in the planned offshore cricket match between the two Clubs, but AYC Club member Lesley Goodwin was on hand to lead an impromptu aerobics wellbeing session on the wet sand which everyone enjoyed.
AYC Club member Pamela Anderson said: “There is nothing like messing about on small sailing boats on a hot summer’s day to get a lovely sun tan with a gentle breeze blowing to cool you down. ”
