Local Government Reorganisation Explained

A COMMUNITY meeting of the CWRA this September will feature a talk on the reorganisation of local government.
Coun Daniel Cowan, the Leader of Southend City Council, will give a presentation on how Essex is set to be divided into five new unitary authorities, with Southend becoming part of the new South East Essex authority.
Elections to the new council are set for May 2027.
A spokesperson for the CRWA said: “We look forward to hearing from Coun Cowan more detail on the details of the changes and how these will affect local government in Southend.”
After a short refreshment break, the second part of the meeting will update residents on the latest developments affecting the ward, as well as offering the chance to raise matters of local concern and to question our ward councillors, who regularly attend meetings.
This meeting will take place at Westcliff Baptist Church, 560 London Road, Westcliff, SS0 9HS, starting at 7:30pm, on Wednesday, 9th September.
Entry to the talk is free to CWRA members.
Annual membership of the Association, costs £5 per year per individual or £10 per household (adults only) (April-March), including attendance at 10 meetings and 11 newsletters.
Non-members may attend the meeting in an observer-only capacity at a cost of £5 per person.
