COULD your festive design be chosen for the Chairman’s Christmas Card?
Young artists across the Rochford District have the chance to see their artwork featured on the Chairman’s official Christmas card as entries open for this year’s competition.
Coun Simon Wootton BEM JP is encouraging children aged 11 and under who live in the district or attend an infant or primary school within the district to take part.
This year’s theme, “The Joy of Giving”, invites children to think about what giving and kindness mean to them. Christmas is a time for sharing and thinking about others, and giving does not always mean giving a present. It can be helping someone, sharing with a friend, making someone smile, giving time, or doing something thoughtful for someone else.
Children are being asked to create a festive design inspired by the theme, and the Chairman is looking forward to seeing the colourful, imaginative and personal ways young people bring their ideas to life.
The winning design will feature on the front of the Chairman’s official 2026 Christmas card, which will be sent to Mayors, Chairmen and other dignitaries across Essex.
Coun Wootton said: “Christmas is a wonderful time to think about the people around us and the simple things we can do to make someone else happy.
“The joy of giving isn’t only about presents – it can be a kind word, helping someone, sharing what we have or simply giving our time.
“I hope this year’s competition inspires children to think about what giving means to them and to express that through their own creativity. I’m really looking forward to seeing the colourful and imaginative designs and discovering the different ways our young people see the joy that comes from thinking of others.”
As well as seeing their artwork featured on the Chairman’s Christmas card, the overall winner will receive a £50 gift voucher and a copy of the finished card. Up to three runners-up will each receive a £10 gift voucher. All winners will also be invited to a special presentation at their school with the Chairman.
Entries must be original designs created by the child entering the competition. Designs should be A4 or A5 in size, and bold, bright colours are encouraged rather than pastels or watercolours. Each entry must also be accompanied by a completed and signed entry form from a parent or guardian.

The deadline for entries is 9am on Friday 20 November.
