Writers Group’s Donation

RAYLEIGH & Wickford MP, Mark Francois, has praised a local writers group, for raising £2,500 for the Essex Air Ambulance.
Mr Francois witnessed the handover of the cheque when he attended an event to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Rayleigh Library Writers Group.
The collection of local authors, poets and scribes has been meeting at Rayleigh Library for a quarter of a century. Periodically, they publish booklets, with a collection of their work, to help showcase the efforts of their members, whilst charging £5, which they then donate to the Essex Air Ambulance.
To mark their 25th anniversary, held at Rayleigh Library, the Group handed over a cheque for £2,500 – representing £100 for each year they have been in operation.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr Francois said: “I want to sincerely thank the Rayleigh Library Writers Group, for adding to the cultural life of our community, whilst also raising valuable funds – totalling over £21,000 to date – for one of Essex’s most popular charities.
“It was a really happy evening, including readings of the Group’s work, and I was very grateful to be part of it, as the local MP.
“I wish the Group all the best for their next 25 years and beyond.”
