84 Apartments Launched

A MAJOR new affordable housing development has opened, providing 84 new apartments for older people in Southend.
Piers Lodge has been delivered by housing and care provider Anchor in partnership with McCarthy & Stone and comprises a mix of shared ownership and social rent homes for residents aged 55 and over.
The development includes 52 two-bedroom apartments available through the Government-backed Older Persons Shared Ownership scheme, alongside 32 one-bedroom social rent homes.
Anchor marked the opening with a special ceremony attended by representatives from Southend Council, Homes England, McCarthy & Stone and the housing provider.
Designed to support independent living, Piers Lodge features a range of communal facilities, including a residents’ lounge, café, landscaped gardens and wellbeing services, combining independent living with facilities suited to residents’ needs.
Oliver Boundy, executive director of development at Anchor, said: “The opening of Piers Lodge marks an exciting step for us.
“Providing much-needed affordable homes for local people in Southend, the development will enable residents to live later life to the fullest.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the community grow and thrive over the coming months.”
