Ellie Thornton, a volunteer for HARP24 has taken part in the event for the last eight years and said it’s one of the highlights of the running calendar.

She said: “I take part every single year, whether running fundraising or volunteering. I just love it.”

Ms Thornton encourages others to get involved in the challenge due to its unique nature.

She added: “There’s not many other challenges like this around.

“The 24 hours of running can be a team, with a relay squad of up to 12 friends, so you can share the load.

“Runners from Leigh Striders will be one of the groups taking part. However, you can take it on as an ultra-marathon challenge as a solo runner, too.”

The event is taking place on June 18 and 19, at Cherry Orchard Country Park.
