A MEMORIAL for those who died during the Dunkirk rescue will take place at St Clement’s Churchyard Thursday June 1.

This year marks the 83^rd anniversary of the evacuation, which saw Leigh’s “little ships” take part.

The service will take place at 12 noon

In case of bad weather, the service will be in the Church.

Make designs for Leigh mosaic

A NEW community mosaic will soon be displayed at the front of Leigh Library.

Leigh Town Council Arts Group are working in collaboration with Friends of Leigh Library Gardens and The Mosaic Studio to create the exciting community project, on which residents will get a unique opportunity to leave their mark on the town’s cultural landscape.

All of the community is invited to become involved by creating an element of Leigh that they would like to see included in the design.

Designs can be submitted from individuals or groups and should be on A4 paper with your name, group (if applicable) and contact details on the back.

Hand them in to Leigh Community Centre by July 1.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We will try to incorporate as many elements as we can and will share progress of the project, so all can see the mosaic come to life.”

Exposure in Belfair’s Woods

A LEIGH man has been arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure.

A 54-year-old man was arrested in connection with an incident where it was reported a man exposed himself in Belfairs Woods.

It was reported to have happened at around 6.35pm on Thursday, May 18, when a man walking a dog allegedly exposed himself to three people.

He has since been released on bail until August 9.

Police are urging anyone with any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, to contact them, quoting the crime reference number 42/89528/23.

Car showroom knifepoint robbery

ESSEX Police are investigating a robbery at knifepoint that took place at a car showroom in Leigh.

It was reported that two men went into Eastwood and Shoeburyness Car Centre in Rayleigh Road at around 4.15pm on Saturday, May 20.

One of the men had a large knife.

The pair forced staff to open a safe and they made off with a three-figure sum of cash.

Enquiries are now ongoing to identify the two men.

The first man is described as tall and slim and wearing a navy baseball cap, a white coat with a tick on the side, black skinny tracksuit trousers, and white trainers.

The other man is described as being of average build and wearing all black with a black baseball cap and white trainers with a gold tick while also carrying a shopping bag.
