LEIGH’S famous annual Folk Festival has announced its line up for this summer.

The popular festival, which is the largest free folk festival of its kind, returns to the town on the Four days of 22 to 25 of June, marking the 31st staging of the event.

The festival, a majority free-to-attend event, will welcome tens of thousands of visitors.

Celebrating a broad spectrum of music and performance, the festival will be take place within the walls of picturesque Leigh Library Gardens, under the ship-hull-shaped domes of 600-year-old St Clement’s Church and in a host of nearby venues.

Announced headliners include She’koyokh, Johnny Butler & Alex Oliva, Kadialy Kouyate, Gwenifer Raymond, Evan Parker & Alex Ward, Khiyo, Emily Portman & Rob Harbron, The Servants’ Ball, Guise, Maria Uzor, Seaming To, Calming River and Gabriel Moreno.

Local favourites to appear include David Woodcock and The Famous Potatoes, and traditional entertainment will come from Cockleshell Clog and local Morris sides.

The rest of the line up is: Plantman, Alison O’donnell, United Bible Studies, M G Boulter Trio, Winter, Emerald Hill, 2wal, The Dusty Peddlers, The Owl Service, Phil Tyler & Sarah Hill, Anthony Briggs, Arfur Doo & The Toerags, Belinda Kempster & Fran Foote, Bob Collum And The Welfare Mothers, Chlo, Ethan Wilson, Fukd & Bombd, Going Down South, Goodnight Crow, Grand Reunion, Invaders, Kev Butler & Dave Crawford, Marine Mammal And The Locals, Masal, Mister Pockets, Mucky Dennis And The Grifters, Mudlarks, Nicola Collis, Pdq, Pick Yer Feet Up, Random Folk, Ruby Hickman, Saida Bee ,Sheila Lord, Stern John, The Chris Robson Band, The Daisy Bowlers, The Ondines, The Silver Darlings, Triggerbliss, Umbrella Factory, Whom By Fire and Yes Today.

Dance groups listed are: Royal Liberty Morris, Blackhorse & Standard Morris, Sitara ‘eastern Dancers’, Desi Taal, Barefoot Connection, Grand Ceilidh Club, Flamenco Ole, Maureen Corr’s Irish Dancers, Swing Dancers and Maypole Dancing.

A spokesperson for the festival commented: “The festival immerses Leigh over four days in rich and diverse sound, dance, comedy, spoken word, workshops and entertainment for all ages.

More than 100 free performances across six stages and venues are at the festival’s heart, plus a special intimate ticketed evening concert and open-air comedy gala, which are not to be missed.”
