AN inquest into the death of a young artist from Westcliff has ruled that he died after drowning in a lake in Hadleigh.
A full inquest into the death of Benjamin Andreas, 31, from Westcliff, ruled at Essex Coroner’s Court that he died after a “misadventure”, which means the death was the result of a voluntary risk.
Mr Andreas was found unresponsive in a lake in Hadleigh Country Park on Thursday, July 28, 2022, six days after he had been reported to police as missing.
His mother, Julia Andreas, fears he may have entered the water after drinking, the inquest heard.
The post-mortem was unable to confirm whether he was intoxicated at the time of death.
Area coroner Michelle Brown said: “We simply do not know how or what happened in the lead up to his death.
“I am satisfied that there is no third party involved and no suspicious circumstances. There was nothing to suggest there was any intention to take his own life.”
Paying tribute at the time of his death, his mother said: “Benjamin was loved by everybody, he always protected me, I have lost my soulmate.
“He was so talented, he was funny, he was kind, and he was just a gentleman.”
Mr Andreas was a pupil at Southend High School for Boys and afterwards attended Slade School of Fine Art in London, before becoming an artist.
He was described as an “amazing brother” by his sister Leah Andrews.
