A LEIGH comic who survived a stroke is heading out on a UK tour.
Markus Birdman, 52, is fresh from the Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals show two weeks ago on ITV.
After failing to make the final, Markus has announced his UK tour Platinum, named after his platinum heart.
The tour will start in his home town, with a show at Dixon Studio, on September 1, before stopping at 26 venues across the UK, including fellow Essex cities Chelmsford and Colchester.
A common theme in his dark humour and stand-up routine are his two strokes, the first in 2011, and the second in 2021, where he lost half his eyesight permanently.
He explained: “June 5th 2021, I had a stroke. It was my second. I found myself in hospital, mid lockdown, with no visitors allowed.
“I’ve permanently lost half my eyesight. One night I went to the toilet and sat down on another naked blind man, already there.
“I was too blind to see him. He was too blind to stop me! So it’s not all doom!
“I’d like to tell you about it. Not to create feelings of pity toward me, more a sense of awe and fawning admiration.
“I have had a unique experience about a topic, often sniggered over, but I’m keen to make you laugh, but also to raise a little awareness. Well done me! (Ahem!)”
Mr Birdman has spent most of his working life in comedy and performance, penning 12 Edinburgh Festival Solo shows, the latest of which saw him nominated for a 2023 Chortle Awards.
Mr Birdman added: “Britain’s Got Talent was a great experience, thanks to all for their support, I’m excited to get out on the road on tour to bring joy to the masses and also to raise a little stroke awareness. Not for your pity, more for your awe and admiration (and cash!)”
