A LEIGH shop owner is issuing a warning to other business about a “professional thief” targeting local shops.
Lisa Blatch, owner of Scape Interiors on The Broadway, has issued CCTV footage of a man who targeted her shop and stole hundreds of pounds from the till.
During the incident, Ms Blatch claims the thief pretended he was in the shop to collect an order of cushions, before snatching cash from the till as staff checked at the back of the shop.
The alleged thief was described as wearing a baseball cap, a khaki North Face jacket, and a pair of blue jeans.
He has also reportedly been seen entering a number of shops in the Broadway.
The thief is shown wearing white gloves on the shop’s CCTV.
Ms Blatch, who wanted to share the image to help protect other shop owners, added: “A few stores in the Broadway are run by women and those are the ones he is targeting.
“The cotton gloves mean he is leaving no fingerprints, so we have reported it to the Police and hope someone will recognise him.”
The incident has triggered a Police investigation.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are investigating a burglary reported to have taken place at a business in Broadway, Leigh, shortly after 12.30pm on Friday, June 2.
“Our enquiries continue and anyone who has information that could help us is asked to call 101 and quote crime reference 42/100946/23.”
