Community Champion Claire

SOUTHEND West MP Anna Frith announced the latest Community Champion.

Claire Harper, who received the award at Ms Firth’s Leigh Constituency Office, dedicates her time and efforts to support families in need through her role at the charity STRM – Send The Right Message.

As the Disability Benefits Manager at STRM, Ms Harper provides invaluable crisis support to these families, with a focus on helping families with children and young people who have specific educational needs and disabilities.

One of her significant contributions is assisting them in completing disability benefit forms, resulting in over £250,000 in unclaimed benefits being secured for the residents of Southend.

This additional financial support helps parents with children who have neurodivergent conditions to cover extra expenses that arise from their specific needs.

But Ms Harper’s efforts don’t stop there, she goes above and beyond by also facilitating the distribution of food bank referrals in collaboration with local partners.

Moreover, she has taken on a fuel crisis project single-handedly, highlighting her determination to make a positive impact in the lives of those facing hardship.

A spokesperson said: “Claire is a real people person and has a huge connection and following with families.”
