A FIRE that ripped through an industrial estate in Rochford has destroyed hundreds of cars.
On the evening of Friday, August 15, a ferocious inferno devoured an industrial estate located on Purdeys Way in Rochford, leaving a trail of destruction that included the incineration of more than 700 automobiles.
Essex Fire Brigade received an urgent call for assistance around 9 pm after numerous reports surfaced concerning hundreds of cars ablaze on the premises.
The scrap yard housed approximately 2,000 vehicles, meticulously arranged in rows, some stacked up to three stories high.
Witnesses recounted scenes of deafening “loud bangs” and unsettling “explosion” sounds as the raging fire consumed the site throughout the night.
In response, over 60 dedicated Essex firefighters converged on the scene, with several of them remaining on-site well into the following morning, working to ensure that any lingering hotspots were effectively extinguished.
Subsequently, Essex Fire officials confirmed that the fire had resulted in extensive damage to more than 700 vehicles.
Authorities revealed that a comprehensive investigation had been conducted in the aftermath of the incident, though the exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
