Christmas Market Returning

A CHRISTMAS market is returning to old Leigh for the fourth successive year.

The popular event gives residents and visitors the chance to pick up handmade arts and crafts in time for filling festive stockings.

Artists from across the city and beyond will set up stalls on Strand Warf opposite the Crooked Billet pub on December 2, selling everything from homemade jewellery and bags, to artwork and candles.

The idea of the festival was originally the brainchild of Amanda Kirk, Lee Dunn and Cerys Arthur in 2020.

Sara, owner of Sara’s Tea Garden in the Old Town, is a big supporter of the event.

She said: “We’re inviting all arts and craft makers to come down and have a stall to sell their amazing creations.

“The market has been incredibly popular over the years and it’s very well supported.

“It’s all for the people and it’s a great opportunity for get together and spread some holiday cheer.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone down for the weekend.”

There are spaces for 24 stalls with well over a third being secured.

From 10 am till 5 pm the creators will be selling their wares on both days, with proceeds from the Christmas market also going to charity.

Leigh Councillor and Carole Mulroney said: “it’s fantastic to hear the bright and breezy old Christmas market coming back.

“Anything that brings the community together, especially in the Old Town, to see the wonderful talent of people living in the city, is fantastic.”
