A LOCAL amateur group are bringing a well-loved show to the stage this festive season.
Southend Operatic and Dramatic Society (SODS) are putting together an adaptation of the hit TV musical Nativity! for the Palace Theatre, from November 15 – 18th.
The show will feature a large cast retelling the famous story, as SODS explain: “Christmas approaches at St Bernadette’s School and every child has one special wish; to star in the school’s musical nativity.
“The only problem however is that Mr Maddens has promised the children that a Hollywood producer is coming to see the show and will be turning it into a film! Featuring all your favourite hits from the festive film series, join Maddens and his lovable teaching assistant Mr Poppy as they try and make everyone’s wish come true.”
Michael James, who plays Mr Poppy, will be joined on stage by his two sons Mark and Freddie and their two dogs Star and Rosie alongside another 48 children.
Mr James said: “like lots of families, we loved the film as soon as we found out SODS were doing Nativity! jumped on the chance to audition!
“Astonishingly I got the part of Mr. Poppy and my boys Mike and Freddie both got in to
“I was so happy.”
Simon Lambert will be taking up director duties, assisted by Sidney Price in this production.
